By bicycle
The fort is within easy reach by bicycle. From Utrecht city centre, it is a 15 to 20-minute bicycle ride. Bicycles can be parked within the fort grounds.
By public transport
Every ten minutes there is a bus from Utrecht Central station. Take the number 3 bus to Overvecht and get off at the Nijldreef stop. From here, it’s a 20-minute walk to the fort. For up-to-date bus schedules visit www.gvu.nl or www.9292ov.nl.
By car
Visitors who come by car: please be aware that the parking area nearest the fort is not always available. There will be stewards for each access road to the fort to show drivers to the nearest available parking areas. Parking by the roadside is not allowed. Parts of the Kanonsdijk and Ruigenhoeksedijk are closed to motorised vehicles.
The parking area across from Fort Ruigenhoek can only be reached from the Ruigenhoeksedijk – the road from the centre of Groenekan village to the fort. Drivers approaching the fort from the Albert Schweitzerdreef/Gageldijk: the nearest parking area is the one on Sint Anthoniedijk. From here it’s a 5 to 10-minute walk to the fort.
