A life-sized pop-up book that sketches the various roles humans play in their lifetime
On stage there’s an impressive wooden construction. Thirty wooden frames, symbolising a blank canvas, an empty page, a new perspective, a new challenge. Within these frames, all the roles that comprise a human life are sketched: the child, the carer, the friend, the lover, the idiot, the prisoner, the liberated, the performer. By alternating and mixing reality, dream images and magic, each of the frames becomes an individual work of art.
Review
“This is a daring and inventive piece of visual theatre whose creators have been brave enough to take real risks. It makes for an unpredictable and exciting piece of art, throwing caution to the wind and opening the floodgates of the imagination.” – De Standaard
About the makers
Tuning People is the unique collective of makers Wannes Deneer, Jef Van gestel and Karolien Verlinden. The shows they make are unpolished experiments mixing dance, sound art and theatre. They like to make their audiences think twice and confronting them with their own (viewing) behaviours. Their do it yourself-style is brutalist yet poetic. With their absurdist and playful ideas, they create refreshing (sound art)theatre shows for young audiences and grownups.
