“Stom” is a heartrending plea for showing vulnerability – ★★★★ NRC
Something is wrong with Ziggy. She doesn’t talk anymore. Not a word. And it’s not that she can’t. She used to talk really well, you should have heard her. But now she doesn’t say anything anymore. Meanwhile, she still goes to school, parties, music lessons, but all in silence. How do you have a conversation with someone who doesn’t respond? Is it brave or is she seeking attention? Does she have a rare disease? Has she experienced something terrible? Or does she just need to act a bit more normal? Her best friend, her parents, the psychologist she has to see, well, actually everyone has something to say about it. But not Ziggy. She remains silent. Even when her parents become desperate, even when her friends no longer want to do anything with her. What if Ziggy never says anything again?
More information about the creators
Director Casper Vandeputte creates with STOM a performance about not being able to put words to your inner world. About not knowing what’s wrong with you. With actors Kirsten Mulder, Sophie Höppener, and Kaspar Schellingerhout, who also provides the (live) music. Vandeputte previously made the award-winning youth performance Bloedlink (14+) and the theater hit De Gebroeders Leeuwenhart (8+).
The clever script by Casper Vandeputte comes with surprising twists at regular intervals. ★★★★ Volkskrant
