“A dance concert on the brink of the future.”

Humanity falls into a black hole called “the future.” How do we prepare for the unknown? De Dansers and Club Gewalt propose a solution: let’s reject the neoliberal perspective that dependency is weakness and instead embrace it firmly.

We don’t know where the future will take us, but one thing is certain: if we have to take the plunge, let’s do it together. Club Gewalt and De Dansers unite in an exhilarating and driving march towards the future, resonating and moving forward. Inspired by the persistent inevitability of The Planets: Mars (Holst) and the Bolero (Ravel), the bodies and sounds of ten performers merge into a musical and dance relay. With the gently overwhelming dance of De Dansers, the anarchic voices of Club Gewalt, and a shared belief in music, the distinction between individuals fades away. The individual is bankrupt: long live the collective.

More about the creators:

CLUB GEWALT

A music & performance collective from Rotterdam. They create, compose, produce, and perform their own work, where music always takes center stage. Fascinated by pop culture and the millennial experience, they create universes where different genres and disciplines intersect, forming a new sensory experience: musicals about the end of the world, meditative operas, eco-feminist punk bands, incomprehensible radio art, and monuments to a drowning city. They are addicted to their audience and, on the eve of the apocalypse, sing their hearts out in an attempt to unlock an alternative timeline.

DE DANSERS

A mobile band of dancers and musicians from Utrecht, led by choreographer/dancer Josephine van Rheenen and composer/musician Guy Corneille. They are known for their “dance concerts”: organic gatherings of modern dance and live music. De Dansers’ performances tell accessible, intuitively captivating stories of liberation and surrender, where playful anarchism is never far away. They shake loose what is stuck or quiet down where attention is needed.

De Dansers aims to inspire physicality and personal connection, especially in a society where we increasingly live through screens. They do this by simply making contact and giving energy, in everything we do. De Dansers particularly believes in the value of dance at a young age. When you’re a child, your body is full of movement, begging to run, jump, and touch. Your brain should be able to let your imagination run wild. What you miss as a child, you won’t catch up on later. They create work that appeals to children’s vitality and reignites adults’ forgotten desires for surrender and physicality.
