A performance about the lonely, demented person and his boundless imagination.
The performance “aai” explores how everyday objects can offer comfort to a lonely grandfather suffering from dementia, depicting the confusion and funny moments that come with it. Inspired by Femke Stallaert’s experiences with her own grandfather, the show is a wordless mask performance in which ordinary objects come to life, portraying a journey full of strange family members and imaginary friends.
More about the creators
Femke Stallaert, since 2020 part of the artistic core of DE MAAN, is a true theater nomad. She works with, among others, Dries Gijsels and Renée Goethijn, theater collective RAF, BRONKS, ARSENAAL/LAZARUS, with Moussem with Rimah Jabr and Dareen Abbas, etc. In addition, she writes songs based on newspaper articles and works with BORIS (Ternat), theater Antigone, Kunsthumaniora Brussels, and BRONKS theater with children and young people. At DE MAAN, she played in ‘LITTLE RED EVA’ (2014) and ‘RAYA’ (2017) and, together with Greet Jacobs, created ‘PLANET NIVANIR’ (2018).
