Park Katrol

KOPERGIETERY

Fort Ruigenhoek, Groenekan

For anyone with two right (or left) hands! Help us build a sight to see.

Welcome to Park Katrol, a theatrical ‘DIY construction installation’ for families. With an enormous pulley installation and a big heap of recycled materials, the theatre makers of the KOPERGIETERY are invading the fort to create a brand new work in collaboration with the audience, young as well as old. A table leg here, a piece of cloth there, screws for eyes and tape for hair. Anything goes! Long live the worst ideas! Long live every (not so) handy Andy!

Park Katrol is a DIY park for the tinkering nitwit artist that lives inside each of us. A tower of youthful sweat and civilised cuts built with the unexpected talent of every visitor. Don’t worry, all the materials, protective wear included, are provided. Everyone aged 6 and over can get to work here, but under 12 need an adult to accompany them. NOTICE feel free to bring your own old chair or other piece of small furniture and work it into the installation with your own two hands!

KOPERGIETERY is a creative home for young audiences in Ghent, with a focus on theatre, dance and music. They have come to nearly every edition of Tweetakt Utrecht with one or more works, which are always characterised by great authenticity. In 2018 they were here with Karandasj and Remember the dragons. One of the characters from Voetbal op hoge hakken (2015) will be back this year, in the show Rita by Tuning People.

Park Katrol was conceived by Giovani Vanhoenacker, Ruben Benoit, Griet Herssens and Michiel Soete. Giovani Van Hoenacker is a theatre designer and DIY-fan. He is a designer with Theater Antigone and creates designs for other companies as well, such as KOPERGIETERY and Het eenzame Westen. Ruben Benoit is the coordinator of production house Bolwerk in Kortrijk, which creates innovative installations and shows. Griet Herssens is a costume and set designer with a great love of puppet theatre and object-based theatre. She is also a performer, designer and teacher. Among the lovely things she has created is a booking agent’s for daydream trips. Michiel Soete was trained as a theatre maker at the RITCS in Brussels. His favourite thing is making theatre with people, for people. Over the past few years he has worked with Theater Antigone, Jozef Wouters, Nele Vereecken and others.
