At a very young age, Steije Maurer showed a great interest in music. When he was 5 years old he started taking djembe and marimba lessons at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in a special education program for young children: learning music by ear.
Since 2014, Steije has been a student at the School for Young Talent in The Hague, where he takes classical percussion lessons with Martin Ansink. In the past few years he has won several awards. In June he played a Bach harpsichord concerto with his duo partner Joep de Mooij with the Atheneum Chamber Orchestra conducted by Leonard Kwon. In addition to playing solo, Steije also plays as a percussionist in the Netherlands Youth Orchestra.
