In the same way that children tear across a playground, the three performers in Pokon tear across the stage. Give us a few pieces of furniture, one or two stepladders, a guitar and a few houseplants, and let’s just briefly pretend that we are allowed to run and climb and drag our shoes and get dirty. What follows is a whirlwind of musical hiccups and tumbles, a topsy-turvy stream that obeys only the need to play and have fun. Even though we may get stuck now and then – inside a table, a stepladder or yet another set of rules – Pokon is unstoppable.
Pokon is De Dansers’ ode to playing. Every animal species plays in order to grow – and so do people. A show packed with movement, rhythm, inventiveness and friendship, for every child and grownup who can’t sit still.
Review
“Pokon is packed with energy and laughter. De Dansers know how to take their audience by surprise, even though they use a number of tried-and-tested strategies. The children enjoy themselves thoroughly. One of them was swept along with such enthusiasm, she fell off her chair.” – Dans Magazine
About the makers
De Dansers, an Utrecht-based company of dancers and musicians, create ‘dance concerts’: organic, energetic blends of contemporary dance and live music. The shows offer accessible, intuitively engaging stories about liberation and abandon, and a playful anarchy is always present. De Dansers is led by Josephine van Rheenen (choreographer/dancer) and Guy Corneille (musician/performer). They came to earlier editions of Tweetakt, with The Basement (2016), Binnenbeest (2017) and more.
