From a bin to a lamp post: all the city’s inhabitants are coming to life

In Om de hoek woont een struik (A bush lives around the corner) theatre makers Sonja van Ojen and Hendrik Kegels are bringing to life a miniature city. The audience is seated around the scale model they have built, witnessing a wordless visual spectacle. Day breaks, a bin is blown over by the wind, a plastic bag gets caught in the branches of a tree, a pigeon drops its poo onto a statue, the crocuses begin to blossom and… Huh? Is that a house, just flying off into the air?

About the makers
In this show, Sonja & Hendrik aren’t placing humans centre stage, but all the other inhabitants of the city. The stars of the show are the Maple, the Lamp Posts, the Public Toilet, the Chimney and the Beetlesl. It’s a different angle on the world for once, from which man is not at the centre, but equal to his surroundings.

In 2020 the concept for this show won the BNG Theaterstimuleringsprijs at the Nederlands Theaterfestival.
