“You’re not the brightest bulb in the box, Lampje. Whenever you need to remember anything, you forget, and whenever you want to forget anything, it keeps popping back into your head.”
Lampje, the lighthouse keeper’s daughter, finds herself in a stormy adventure. Lost and alone she meets mysterious sea creatures, sad sideshow artists and savage pirates. And every time, she stretches her ability to be brave, hold on and be a caring person.
Director Moniek Merkx has made a stage adaptation of Lampje (Lampie), the successful children’s book by first-time writer Annet Schaap. The book received raving reviews and won four book prizes, including the Gouden Griffel. “A dazzling, magnificent, fairy-talelike adventure. Annet Schaap has not only successfully written a gripping, unputdownable adventure, she also proves herself to be a writer with a moving and very real story to tell,” according to the NRC review. The stage version of Lampje is a richly imagined tale with a poetic sea-view, savage drinking music, and melancholy songs of longing by Djurre de Haan (AWKWARD i).
